2022 Assembly Elections Live Updates: Delhi Chief Minister and AAP’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal Monday said his party’s chief ministerial candidate for the Punjab Assembly polls will be announced on Tuesday. The party claimed that it has received around 22 lakh responses under its campaign to elect its CM face for the Assembly polls.
A day before AAP’s pending announcement, the Congress on Monday put out a video on its official Twitter handle virtually projecting Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi as its chief minister face. However, a party leader told The Indian Express that the Congress cannot, as of now, announce Channi as the CM face given the CM aspirants in Goa and Uttarakhand. “Harish Rawat wants the party to announce him as the CM face and Digambar Kamat, too, is eager. So, we cannot project Channi officially but the signals are clear. He is our best bet and if the party returns to power, it will be largely because of him,” the leader said.
In Uttarakhand, meanwhile, the possibility of the return of senior leader Harak Singh Rawat, who was expelled by the BJP Sunday, to the Congress has divided the party’s state unit. Congress campaign committee chief Harish Rawat is said to be opposed to the reinduction of the former BJP minister into the party, but a section of Congress’s central and state leadership is pushing for it. Sources close to Harish Rawat, former Uttarakhand CM, said he has conveyed his view to the central leadership but at the same time he would not push his opinion beyond a point, given that he has the responsibility to lead the party to victory in the hill-state.
