Nov. 24—LENOIR — Candidates wishing to file for the 2022 primary elections may do so starting noon Monday, Dec. 6th until noon Friday, Dec. 17th.
To file, individuals must be registered voters in Caldwell County. Filing for state and local offices will take place at the Caldwell County Board of Elections at 120 Hospital Avenue, Lenoir. Candidates will need to pay the filing fee with check or cash. If paying with cash, exact change is required.
2022 contests include the following:
For the Board of Commissioners, two seats are available for 4-year terms. The filing fee is $57. Currently, these seats are held by Mike LaBrose and Donnie Potter. According to Chad Barnes, director of the Board of Elections, LaBrose and Potter will most likely file for reelection.
For the Board of Education, four seats are available for 4-year terms. The filing fee is $12. These seats are currently held by Teresa Branch, Duane Knight, Joe Sims, and B.J. Fore, who was appointed for the position and will most likely file for reelection.
For sheriff, one seat is available for a 4-year term. The filing fee is $785.83. Currently, Alan Jones holds this seat.
For the Clerk of Court, one seat is available for a 4-year term. The filing fee is $1,076.25. This seat is currently held by Angela Kidd, who has opened up her campaign for reelection.
For the N.C. House of Representatives 87th district, there is one seat available for a 2-year term. The filing fee is $140. Currently, Destin Hall holds this seat.
Due to redistricting, Caldwell County has been divided into two separate NC Senate Districts. For the Senate 45th and 47th districts, one seat is available for a 2-year term. The filing fee is $140. Currently, Deanna Ballard represents NC Senate 45th district, and Ralph Hise represents District 47. Prior to redistricting, Caldwell County was in District 46 and was represented by Warren Daniels.

For the U.S. Congressional District 11, there is one seat available for a 2-year term. The filing fee is $1,740. This seat is currently held by Virginia Foxx.
For the U.S. Senate, one seat is available for a 6-year term. The filing fee is $1,740. Currently, Richard Burr holds this seat. Burr has opted not to seek reelection.
