General Election 2022: Key Dates To Know In McLean – Patch

MCLEAN, VA — Early voting will begin Friday, Sept. 23 for the Nov. 8 general election in the McLean area, according to the Fairfax County Office of Elections.

For the 8th congressional district election, Rep. Don Beyer (D) is facing Republican Karina Lipsman. The 8th congressional district is considered solid Democrat in the 2022 Cook Political Report’s House race ratings.

Beyer is serving his fourth term as the representative for the 8th congressional district and previously served as ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein under President Obama’s administration and lieutenant governor of Virginia from 1990 to 1998. He is the chair of the Congress Joint Economic Committee and a member of the House Committee on Ways and Means and House Committee on Science Space and Technology. In June, Beyer defeated Democratic primary opponent Victoria Virasingh with 77 percent of the vote.

Lipsman, the Republican challenger, came to the U.S. as a Ukrainian refugee during her childhood. Now a U.S. citizen, Lipsman has worked for 14 years in national defense and intelligence. She was chosen as a candidate during a May Republican convention.

Fairfax County’s Office of Elections is sending each registered voter a personalized sample ballot with information on their congressional district, precinct and polling place.
