In 2012, the saffron party had amended its constitution, paving the path for the party president, state and district unit chiefs to get a second term.
The amended rules allows a member to hold the post for two consecutive terms of 3 years each.

Several Opposition leaders like Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and RJD supremo have advocated for a joint opposition to take on the BJP in the next parliamentary polls.
Recently, Telanagan Rashtra Samithi chief KCR visited Bihar and met Nitish Kumar and called for teh opposition unity to contest against the saffron unit.
Following his visit, Nitosh Kumar who recently snapped ties with the BJP and formed the government in Bihar with the support of RJD and Congress, visited the power capital and met Rahul Gandhi, Delhi CM and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal, NCP supremo Shatrad Pawar, Samajwadi Party leaders Mulayam Singh Yadava nd Akhilesh Yadav and CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury to unite the Opposition to fight against the BJP.
RJD chief Lalu Yadav and Nitish Kumar met Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi on September 25 in Delhi and ‘pledged to unite together and work for the country’s progress.’
