Shellyne Rodriguez, formerly an art professor at Hunter College in Manhattan, was fired after threatening to attack New York Post reporters with a machete and subsequently chasing them down the street.
Reporters for the Post arrived at Rodriguez’s Bronx apartment Tuesday to interview her regarding an incident where she vandalized a table manned by pro-life students at Hunter College.
“Get the f–k away from my door, or I’m gonna chop you up with this machete!” Rodriguez shouted from behind the door.
She then opened the door and held the blade to one reporter’s neck. As the reporters left Rodriguez’s doorstep, Rodriguez followed, chasing them up and down the street while wielding the sword.
At the time of Rodriguez’s threatening the Post reporters, the college was investigating her for attacking the pro-life students but had not fired her over the incident. Some pro-abortion student groups even expressed support for her outburst at the college.
A spokesman for Hunter College told the Post Tuesday after the incident that Rodriguez had been fired.
As of now, Rodriguez is not facing charges for the attack, and it is unclear if she will. The Bronx’s progressive district attorney Darcel Clark has the worst conviction and dismissal rates in the city, like many Soros-funded district attorneys across the country.
Reuven Fenton, the reporter who was threatened, is “in discussions” regarding whether or not he will choose to press charges against Rodriguez.
Rodriguez has a history of run-ins with the law. She was arrested in 2020 during a protest over the death of George Floyd.
“The new credo of the American left is: Speech I don’t like is violence; violence I like is speech,” the Post’s editorial board wrote of the incident.
