President-elect Donald Trump nominated the former congresswoman for the role in November.
Former congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, President-elect Donald Trumpâs nomination for director of national intelligence (DNI), picked up a key endorsement from the National Border Patrol Council (NBPC).
Cotton is widely expected to be the next chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, where he would oversee national intelligence matters in the Senate, according to multiple reports.
His office has neither confirmed nor denied the reports.
During her time in the military, Gabbard witnessed firsthand âthe threats posed by foreign terrorists and those who want to do America harm,â according to Perez.
Those threats are âmore prevalent now than everâ in part due to the federal governmentâs border policies, he said.
The union boss said the U.S. Intelligence Community (IC), led by the DNI, plays an âintegral roleâ in securing the border from threats including transnational criminal organizations operating in North, Central, and South America, and foreign terrorist organizations.
Such hostile actors will âalways attempt to exploit our unsecure borders to further their activities that threaten the American people,â he said. âIn order to adequately confront these threats, the IC must have strong, courageous and competent leadership â that leader is Lt. Col. Gabbard.â
âFor over two decades, Tulsi has fought for our Country and the Freedoms of all Americans,â Trump said in a statement shared by his campaign team. âAs a former Candidate for the Democrat Presidential Nomination, she has broad support in both Parties – She is now a proud Republican!â
Trump said that Gabbard will bring to the role âthe fearless spirit that has defined her illustrious careerâ and will champion constitutional rights while âsecuring Peace through Strength.â
âTulsi will make us all proud!â Trump said.
They said her past actions âcall into question her ability to deliver unbiased intelligence briefings to the President, Congress, and to the entire national security apparatus.â
The former Hawaii congresswoman said she supports Trumpâs stance that the United States should have no involvement in Syria, where Assadâs regime has now fallen.
Rounds said he was âlooking forward to working with her as she continues to move through the confirmation process,â and described their meeting as âexcellent.â
