Democrats Look to Narrow GOP Edge in Tennessee House Special Election

Democrats see a rare chance to cut into the Republicans’ edge in a deep-red Tennessee district next week, turning a normally quiet election into a test of whether the party can overperform in Trump territory.

On Dec. 2, voters in Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District will choose a new U.S. House member to replace Republican Mark Green, who resigned earlier this year to pursue a private business venture. Republican Matt Van Epps, a former state commissioner and Army helicopter pilot, faces Democratic state Rep. Aftyn Behn and four independents in a race that has drawn millions of dollars in outside spending and intensive ground operations from both parties.
