NEW YORK CITY—It’s a cool 65 degrees in New York City. The sky is greyed by clouds and drizzle, with a breeze. English weather. Rather dull. In the middle of June, the circumstances are unassuming: One would never think the city’s largest democratic exercise—electing a mayor—is underway.
Yet, rain or shine, the election goes on. In such conditions, New Yorkers began casting their early ballots on June 14 in the Democratic primary contest for the city’s 2025 mayoral election, which will be held on Nov. 4. It is well-known that America’s largest city also leans left—thus, for years, the Democratic primary has always been the real contest to determine the next mayor.
