Crockett did not respond to a request for comment on her assessment of Kamala Harris’s marriage to white man Doug Emhoff
Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D., Texas) once attacked Rep. Byron Donalds (R., Fla.) for having a white wife, saying Donalds “married a white woman and so you think that whitewashed you.” It’s unclear whether Crockett believes Kamala Harris is “whitewashed” for marrying a white man.
“The fact that you’re sitting around talking about ‘life was better under Jim Crow,’ like, is this because you don’t understand history? Or literally it’s because you married a white woman and so you think that whitewashed you?” Crockett said on The Breakfast Club in June.
“It took joy to call him out,” she continued. “I feel like they give him his talking points and he’s like ‘Yes, massa [sic]. I got it.’”
Donalds has been married to Erika Donalds, a white woman, for over 20 years. Crockett, a rising star in the Democratic Party, called Donalds “skinfolk who definitely” is “not our kinfolk.” The Texas congresswoman did not return a request for comment about her thoughts on Harris’s marriage to Doug Emhoff, who, like Erika Donalds, is white.
Crockett’s comments toward Donalds take on a new light after she mocked Texas’s wheelchair-bound governor Greg Abbott (R.), calling him “Governor Hot Wheels” on Saturday. After facing backlash, Crockett claimed she was not referring to Abbott’s disability.
“I was thinking about the planes, trains, and automobiles he used to transfer migrants into communities led by Black mayors, deliberately stoking tension and fear among the most vulnerable,” she wrote on X.
But Crockett “liked” Facebook comments referring to Abbott as “hot wheels” in 2021—a year before he started busing migrants to Democratic cities, the Washington Free Beacon reported.
