Former North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper announced on July 28 that heās running for the U.S. Senate, framing his 2026 bid as a battle to preserve the American middle class and counter what he called Washingtonās āwrongā priorities.
In a campaign announcement video posted on X, Cooper said, āIt wasnāt always this hard, because being in the middle class meant something.ā
