Housing Affordability Champion Jon Ossoff Silent on Warnock’s Free Luxury Home

Sen. Jon Ossoff (D., Ga.) says securing access to affordable housing for public servants is “a matter of fairness.” But the vulnerable swing state Democrat won’t speak on the fairness of his closest ally, Sen. Raphael Warnock (D., Ga.), living for free in a luxury Atlanta home while serving in the Senate.

Known by some as the “Ebony-and-Ivory” of the Senate, Ossoff and Warnock made history together in 2020 when they won their respective elections to become the first Jewish and Black senators in Georgia state history. But that alliance could come back to haunt Ossoff as he gears up for a tough reelection campaign in 2026.

Ossoff, considered the most vulnerable Senate Democrat of the upcoming cycle, has portrayed himself as a champion of housing affordability for everyday Americans during his time in office. Warnock, meanwhile, quietly maneuvered to live for free at a $1 million luxury Atlanta home owned by the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, the Washington Free Beacon reported.

Ossoff, who has introduced several housing affordability bills since assuming office, said in May 2024 that the government should help public servants such as teachers and first responders obtain homes in the communities they serve “as a matter of fairness.” Warnock considers himself a “public servant” as well, but his housing situation is something the everyday American would be hard-pressed to replicate.

Warnock moved into his new church-owned home in 2023, the Free Beacon reported. It’s brimming with luxury accommodations, including a 100-bottle wine fridge, a Bluetooth-enabled stainless steel cooking range, and remote-controlled privacy curtains. And Warnock hasn’t had to spend a penny of his own money to live at the luxury five-bedroom home. Ebenezer Baptist Church purchased the home in October 2022 for $989,000 and lets the senator live there for free in return for his ongoing service as a part-time senior pastor.

Ebenezer Baptist Church purchased Warnock’s home at the same time it was facing fierce blowback for owning a low-income Atlanta apartment building that filed eviction lawsuits against its disadvantaged residents during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, citing infractions as petty as $28.55 in past-due rent.

It’s unclear if this is what Ossoff had in mind as he has advocated for affordable housing for public servants. His campaign did not return a request for comment.

Ossoff is already in campaign mode. He appeared alongside Warnock at a campaign rally in Atlanta on March 23, where he proclaimed, “Georgia will bow to no king” and attacked President Donald Trump for allowing hedge funds to “buy up all the houses in your neighborhood.”

Warnock, in his speech introducing Ossoff to supporters, said Trump and his administration “are incapable of understanding the experiences of ordinary people.”
