WASHINGTON—A law that shields tech companies from litigation over content on their platforms has drawn criticism for years. Now, pressure to lift it is mounting on Capitol Hill.

A Feb. 4 press conference raised concerns with Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which allows social media platforms and other tech firms to avoid lawsuits for third-party content that they host.
