The $1.8 billion settlement was seen as a “slush fund” by the president’s critics and made many in his own party uncomfortable.
The move comes after the committee spent months attacking the attorney general during his primary against Sen. John Cornyn, which he won last week.
Opposition to the “Anti-Weaponization Fund” has complicated passage of the GOP’s enforcement agenda.
