The Arkansas senator’s RNC remarks focused exclusively on immigration
MILWAUKEE—Sen. Tom Cotton (R., Ark.) in his Republican National Convention remarks blasted President Joe Biden’s immigration policies, describing them as “chaos.”
“After Joe Biden and ‘border czar’ Kamala Harris reversed Trump’s immigration policies and welcomed a third world invasion, I traveled to our border,” Cotton said. “What did I see? A body of a migrant drowned in the Rio Grande, human traffickers mocking the Border Patrol.”
Cotton’s remarks, which focused exclusively on the border, come as immigration remains a top concern for both Republicans and the broader electorate. Law enforcement has logged more than 11 million illegal border crossings since Biden took office, more than under any president in history.
“What choice will we make? Joe Biden, open borders and chaos?” Cotton said. “Of course not, we’ll choose Donald Trump and his record of security, prosperity, and stability.”
The border crisis has dramatically changed the public’s perceptions of immigration, with a strong majority of voters now supporting draconian policies such as mass deportations and a border wall. A recent CBS survey showed 62 percent of registered voters, including a majority of Hispanics, would support a federal program that deports all illegal aliens in the United States.
An Army captain who was awarded the Bronze Star medal for his service in Iraq and Afghanistan, Cotton has emerged as a leading Republican voice on national security issues and is considered one of the upper chamber’s staunchest critics of China.
Cotton graduated from Harvard University, where he earned both his undergraduate and law degrees. He was first elected to the Senate in 2014 after unseating Democratic incumbent Mark Pryor.
“Joe Biden thinks borders are racist,” he said. “Donald Trump will secure our border once again.”
