The Trump administration on Wednesday night filed an urgent appeal with the Supreme Court to rule on a lower court order that struck down most of President Donald Trump’s global tariffs.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled 7-4 on Aug. 29 in V.O.S. Selections Inc. v. United States and Oregon v. Trump that the president had overstepped his authority when he imposed the reciprocal tariffs on imports from U.S. trade partners in April.

The levies remained in effect after the ruling, as the circuit court decided that its order on the tariffs wouldn’t take effect until Oct. 14, giving the administration time to appeal.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
