ANCHORAGE, Alaska—U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are meeting in Alaska on Friday, in a bid to end more than three years of fighting in Ukraine.
The leaders’ summit is taking place at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska’s largest military facility. The choice of venue carries historical weight as Alaska was part of the Russian Empire until the United States purchased it in 1867 for $7.2 million.
