The announcement is set to be made at the Republican National Convention, just days after Trump survived an assassination attempt.
Former President Donald Trump will announce his running mate at the Republican National Convention on July 15, the former president told Fox News anchor Bret Baier.
Mr. Baier said he had a conversation with former President Trump on July 15 just hours before the Republican National Convention kicked off in Milwaukee.
The announcement will end months of speculation and will be made two days after an assassination attempt on the former president at a Pennsylvania rally.
Several names have been floated as possibilities including Sens. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum.
Mr. Burgum made an early run for the presidential nomination, and after dropping out, endorsed former President Trump shortly before the Iowa Caucus in January.
Mr. Rubio, like former President Trump, lives in Florida.
While the Constitution does not prohibit the presidential and vice presidential nominees on the same ticket from living in the same home state, there would be an issue of home-state electors in that the delegates in the Sunshine State would only be able to cast their vote for either president or vice president—a factor that could complicate the electoral college map.
The three are already scheduled to address the RNC.
The vice presidential pick is scheduled to speak at the convention on July 17 with former President Trump addressing the crowd in Milwaukee the following day.
Former President Trump previously said he would wait until the convention to announce his running mate.
It is traditionally the case that the pick is announced shortly before the convention—as he did in 2016 in picking then-Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his running mate.
The relationship between the two men frayed after the Jan. 6 breach of the U.S. Capitol.
The RNC ends on July 18.
This is developing and will be updated.
