According to Federal Election Commission filings the Democratic National Committee paid two firms who employed President Joe Biden’s attorneys in 2023 and 2024.
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) apparently used its funds to pay lawyers representing President Joe Biden during a special counsel investigation of alleged improper handling of classified documents.
According to Federal Election Commission records published by the DNC between February 2023 and March 2024, the committee paid about $1.86 million to two firms representing President Biden: Bob Bauer PLLC and Hemenway & Barnes LLP.
The report said the investigation into the matter began in November 2022. The same document identified Bob Bauer and Jennifer Miller as President Biden’s counsels.
According to his webpage with New York University (NYU), Mr. Bauer is a professor of practice and distinguished scholar in residence at the NYU School of Law. He served as White House Counsel between 2011 and 2013.
According to her webpage at Hemenway & Barnes LLP, Ms. Miller is counsel and co-chair of the Government & Election Law Group at the Boston-based law firm.
According to the DNC’s FEC filings, the committee paid Bob Bauer PLLC about $1 million between April 2023 and February 2024 and Hemenway & Barnes about $800,000 between January 2023 and January 2024.
The DNC did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Epoch Times.
On X, DNC Chair Jaime Harrison—who regularly ribs the rival party on the social media platform—as of the early afternoon on April 12, hasn’t said anything yet. The White House and the DNC have yet to issue a press statement or social media post on the matter too.
“Democrats have a serious problem with PROJECTION,” Mr. Schneider wrote. “If Democrats didn’t have hypocrisy, they’d have nothing at all.”
The campaign to reelect the president, Biden for President, has remained silent about the issue as well.
For months, the campaign and its allies have criticized his Republican Party rival, former President Donald Trump, for using money from an affiliated political action committee (PAC) to pay for his own legal representation.
In terms of total dollars spent, President Trump’s legal spending towers over President Biden’s.
According to the latest round of FEC filings released by the PAC Save America, the qualified leadership PAC spent $6.5 million in February alone to defend President Trump in various courtrooms across America. The former president is facing multiple charges, which he has repeatedly called political.
President Biden and President Trump are likely headed toward a rematch of the 2020 presidential election. Both appear likely to formally receive their party’s nominations at their respective conventions this summer.
