Elon Musk Donates Nearly $75 Million to America PAC in Support of Trump

The billionaire businessman first launched the PAC in May before endorsing Trump months later.

Businessman Elon Musk has donated nearly $75 million to his political action committee (PAC), America PAC, to support former President Donald Trump’s bid for the White House, according to a campaign finance filing with the Federal Election Commission.

Musk, who heads electric vehicle company Tesla and spacecraft manufacturer SpaceX, contributed a total of $74,950,020 to the PAC between July and September, accounting for all reported donations during that period.

The filing underscores Musk’s efforts to support Trump competes against Democratic candidate Vice President Kamala Harris in the Nov. 5 presidential election.

Musk is the world’s wealthiest person, with a net worth of $246.8 billion, according to the Forbes real-time billionaires list.
He announced the launch of the America PAC back in May, stating at the time that it was created to “support candidates who believe in the core values of America.”
According to its mission statement, America PAC was created to support six key values: secure borders, sensible spending, safe cities, a fair justice system, self-protection, and free speech.
“There is only one candidate in this race who is on the right side of these issues: Donald J. Trump,” America PAC wrote in a post on Musk-owned social media platform X earlier this month.
The super PAC has since become the seventh-largest outside spender during the 2024 election cycle, spending a total of $106,031,817, according to a tally by OpenSecrets.

That is less than half of the approximately $253,970,695 the pro-Trump super PAC, Make America Great Again Inc, has spent this election cycle, and substantially less than the $263,417,307 donated by the pro-Harris super PAC, Fast Forward USA, according to the non-profit.

Earlier filings from September show that America PAC received millions of dollars in donations from Palantir Technologies co-founder Joe Lonsdale’s Lonsdale Enterprises, venture capitalist Doug Leone, and Sequoia Capital partners Shaun Maguire, among others.
Musk first endorsed Trump in July, just days after the 45th president was wounded during a failed assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
A month later, the businessman, who says he voted for the Democratic Party’s presidential candidates in the past, spoke with Trump during a live conversation on X “Spaces.”
In October, the billionaire appeared alongside Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, the same location where the Republican presidential candidate was struck by a bullet months earlier when shooter Thomas Crooks opened fire. Musk urged people to register to vote.
Musk also donated smaller amounts to other Republican committees this year, including nearly $290,000 to the National Republican Congressional Committee and $10,000 each to Republican parties in Utah and California.

His America PAC had just under $4 million in cash on hand as of Sept. 30, according to the latest filing.

It comes as the businessman announced that he will be giving a series of talks throughout Pennsylvania for the next week.

“If you’d like to attend one of my talks, there’s no attendance fee,” Musk told his followers in an Oct. 16 X post. “You just need to have signed our petition supporting free speech & right to bear arms & have voted in this election.”
