Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wy., the chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, announced on Thursday that his wife, Bobbi, died after a two-year battle with glioblastoma, a type of brain cancer.
“After a courageous battle with cancer, Bobbi is now at peace and at home with the Lord,” Barrasso said in a statement. “In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Bobbi was a leader, fierce advocate for Wyoming, and friend to everyone she met. We miss her dearly. On behalf of our entire family, we thank everyone for your prayers and continued support as we remember her and grieve together.”
Bobbi died Wednesday evening in Casper, Barrasso’s office told Fox News Digital
Glioblastoma is a type of aggressive and malignant brain tumor that originates from glial cells, or non-neuronal cells that provide support and protection for neuron in the nervous system. It is the most common primary brain tumor in adults.
In February 2022, Barrasso announced Bobbi underwent a successful surgical removal of an intracranial lesion at the University of Colorado Medical Center.
Barrasso said in a statement at the time that his wife was doing well after the surgery, and he and Bobbi were both “very thankful.”
Barrasso and Bobbi met in Casper, Wyoming and tied the knot in 2008 and have three kids together. Bobbi previously beat breast cancer, according to a post on Barrasso’s Instagram account in 2018 at the third annual Wyoming Breast Cancer Initiative Pink Ribbon Run. Both Bobbi and Barrasso had previous marriages.
The late Sen. John McCain, Joseph “Beau” Biden and Edward M. Kennedy also died of glioblastoma, which kills approximately 10,000 people in the U.S. each year.
