âDonald Trump is changing everything we know about American politics today. And thatâs good news for a nation.â
Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) said that former President Donald Trump won three important voter demographics by a double-digit margin in the New Hampshire GOP Primary, despite significant participation from Democrats and independents in the election.
âDonald Trump didnât just win with seniors. He didnât just win with women. He didnât just win with millennials. He won with all three demographics,â Mr. Scott said during an interview with Fox News on Jan. 28.
Mr. Scottâs remarks referred to the exit poll from last weekâs New Hampshire Republican primary, in which the former president won the Granite State with 54.4 percent, compared to former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haleyâs 43.2 percent, according to The Associated Press.
During the interview, Mr. Scott praised the 45th president for his administrationâs record, saying: âDonald Trump is changing everything we know about American politics today. And thatâs good news for the nation.â
According to CNN exit polls, President Trump won all age groups. In the 18-29 age group, the former president garnered 58 percent of the votes compared to Ms. Haleyâs 36 percent. Among voters aged 65 and over, he claimed 53 percent of the votes, while Ms. Haley received 45 percent.
In terms of gender, President Trump secured 51 percent of the female vote, with Ms. Haley gaining 47 percent. The former president also won 59 percent of the male vote, compared to Ms. Haleyâs 39 percent.
Regarding race, the 45th president received support from 54 percent of white voters and 58 percent from voters of color. In contrast, Ms. Haley gained 43 percent and 37 percent from these groups, respectively.
The South Carolina senator shared his views on the prospects of a second Trump term. âWe’ll have lower taxes back on the menu, low inflation back on the menu, low crime, and high levels of law enforcement back on the menu for the American people,â Mr. Scott said.
The exit polls showed that registered Republicans represented 70 percent of President Trumpâs support while undeclared voters contributed 27 percent.
Notably, for Ms. Haley, those proportions were opposite when 70 percent identified themselves as undeclared voters and 27 percent as registered Republicans.
Targeted for Endorsing Trump
Mr. Scott was a Republican presidential candidate but dropped out of the race in November. He endorsed President Trump on Jan. 19, before the New Hampshire GOP Primary. âWe need a president who will unite our country. We need Donald Trump,â Mr. Scott said at the former presidentâs campaign rally in Concord, New Hampshire. âThatâs why I came to the very warm state of New Hampshire to endorse the next president of these United States, President Donald Trump.â
The senator slammed liberals for the negative comments that came his way after endorsing President Trump. An MSNBC host accused Mr. Scott of supporting âeasily the most racist president in our lifetime.â During a CNN program, an individual said: âI donât know how he sleeps at night. I donât know how he faces his friends and family.â
Discussing the hate he is receiving, Mr. Scott said that âthe most bigoted comments I hear today come from liberals.â
âThe racists that we should just turn our focus towards are teachersâ unions who trap poor black kids, in cities like Chicago, out of their greatest future because they refuse to let them go to good schools. I canât imagine why the Democrats have not just said, âDear people, Iâm sorry, we resign. Love DNC.â Truly, thatâs the best thing they can do for the nation,â he said.
âAnd frankly, I am looking forward to bringing this race for Donald Trump to be our next president to my home state of South Carolina so the race can be over and we can focus on firing,â he added.
Regarding the 2024 presidential race, Mr. Scott said that the entire Republican Party should âcoalesce around Donald Trump today. Not tomorrow, today.â
