The Biden administration banned children from depicting religious themes on Easter eggs in an art contest.
The White House lambasted lawmakers who questioned the Biden administration’s decision to assign Easter Sunday as a transgender day, claiming the critics were spreading “hateful” rhetoric.
“Sadly, it’s unsurprising politicians are seeking to divide and weaken our country with cruel, hateful, and dishonest rhetoric. President Biden will never abuse his faith for political purposes or for profit.”
President Biden said in the announcement that the declaration honors “the extraordinary courage and contributions of transgender Americans and reaffirm our Nation’s commitment to forming a more perfect Union—where all people are created equal and treated equally throughout their lives.”
“Transgender Americans are part of the fabric of our Nation. Whether serving their communities or in the military, raising families or running businesses, they help America thrive,“ he said. ”They deserve, and are entitled to, the same rights and freedoms as every other American, including the most fundamental freedom to be their true selves.”
“The Submission must not include any questionable content, religious symbols, overtly religious themes, or partisan political statements,” said a flyer from the White House.
The Trump campaign slammed President Biden’s actions. “It is appalling and insulting that Joe Biden’s White House prohibited children from submitting religious egg designs for their Easter Art Event, and formally proclaimed Easter Sunday as ‘Trans Day of Visibility,’” Trump campaign spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said in a statement.
“Sadly, these are just two more examples of the Biden Administration’s years-long assault on the Christian faith,” she said while calling on the White House to issue an apology to Christians.
President Biden has previously issued the Transgender Day of Visibility declaration for March 31 every year since 2021. This is the first time that March 31 falls on Easter Sunday during his term.
“Now the White House is banning any religious symbolism on Easter Eggs,“ he said in a March 31 X post. ”We’re in the middle of a war in this country—and take it from a Hindu, that isn’t a ‘Christian nationalist’ talking point.”
“Banning sacred truth and tradition—while at the same time proclaiming Easter Sunday as ‘Transgender Day’—is outrageous and abhorrent. The American people are taking note.”
“March 31st has been a day to lift up transgender people who endure violence and bigotry. Easter—the date changes every single day. But this is just one more instance of folks who have, who do not know how to lead us, trying to divide us,” he said.
Countering Conservatism
Last year, the federal administration proposed a rule that mandates foster families to use a child’s preferred pronouns while also allowing the kid to dress in a manner reflective of their perceived gender identity.
In November, a group of Republican attorneys general wrote a letter to officials at the Biden administration, pointing out that the proposed rule “seeks to accomplish indirectly what the Supreme Court found unconstitutional just two years ago: remove faith-based providers from the foster care system if they will not conform their religious beliefs on sexual orientation and gender identity.”
The FBI sought to “enlist Catholic houses of worship as potential sources to monitor and report on their parishioners,” he wrote in a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray, citing testimony from a whistleblower and certain redacted FBI documents.
The FBI “relied on the Southern Poverty Law Center to suggest that certain kinds of Catholic Americans may be domestic terrorists.”
