Presidential Election 2022 LIVE Updates: BJP, allies confident of Murmu’s win; Sinha vouches to save democracy – Economic Times

Presidential polls 2022 Live : Members of the Bharatiya Janata Party and state heads said they were confident about Draupadi Murmu winning the race for Raisina Hill, while opposition Presidential nominee Yashwant Sinha urged all MPs and MLAs to vote for him to save democracy.

Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai today said that not only NDA and its alliances, but even others are supporting Draupadi Murmu and she will certainly win the race for Raisina Hill. Parties such as JDS, BSP and even Shiv Sena are supporting Murmu and she will surely win, he added.

Himachal Pradesh’s state chief is also hopeful NDA-backed President nominee Draupadi Murmu will have an “outstanding” win. “From Himachal, all MLAs have cast their votes. I am sure all our votes have gone to her, she will win,” CM Jairam Thakur said.

Goa CM Pramod Sawant also said he is sure all votes will be cast for Murmu from teh coastal state.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav said he will vote for Yashwant Sinha in India’s Presidential election. “There should be someone in the country who can tell the government the situation of the economy, from time to time. Look at Sri Lanka’s condition. So, there should be President who can say that from time to time,” he said.

RJD MLA Tejashwi Yadav said there is rampant misuse of constitutional institutions is rampant and would want a President who looks into it.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the earliest voters in the 16th Presidential election.

Uttar Pradesh will be an important state to watch out for in the presidential elections, with the highest vote value of 208 for each of its 403 MLAs.

About 4,800 elected MPs and MLAs will vote on Monday to elect the 15th President of India. The BJP has fielded Murmu, former Jharkhand Governor and tribal leader, to take on opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha, a former union minister in the Vajpayee government.

The polling will take place between 10 am and 5 pm in the Parliament and State Legislative Assemblies.

Votes will be counted on July 21.
