HERNDON, VA — Early voting will begin Friday, Sept. 23 for the Nov. 8 general election in Herndon, according to the Fairfax County Office of Elections.
Connolly is serving his seventh term as the representative for the 11th congressional district. He previously served 14 years on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, including five years as the chairman. He is a member of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform and is chairman of the Subcommittee on Government Operations. He is also part of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.
Myles, the Republican challenger, is a retired federal judge and U.S. Air Force veteran. He was chosen as a candidate during a May Republican convention.
Redrawn congressional district maps will take effect with the 2022 election. The 11th congressional district still contains all of the City of Fairfax, but borders are adjusted elsewhere. The redrawn map no longer includes parts of Prince William County and contains more of Fairfax County.
Fairfax County’s Office of Elections is sending each registered voter a personalized sample ballot with information on their congressional district, precinct and polling place.
Any registered voter can vote in the November 2022 election, as Virginia does not register voters by party. In-person early voting in Fairfax County will begin Friday and continue through Saturday, Nov. 5. Election Day voting will happen from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
Key Dates To Know For Nov. 8 Election

- Oct. 17: Deadline for voter registration or updating an existing voter registration (such as address change). Visit vote.elections.virginia.gov to register or update your registration.

- Oct. 28: Deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot. The quickest way to apply for a mail-in ballot is online at vote.elections.virginia.gov.
- Nov. 5: Last day for in-person early voting.
- Nov. 8: Polls open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. For voters returning a mail-in ballot, they must be returned to the Office of Elections by 7 p.m. on Nov. 8 and received by noon on Nov. 14.

Mail-in Ballots
Virginia voters do not need an excuse to request a mail-in ballot. Mail-in ballots may be requested by visiting vote.elections.virginia.gov, downloading an application on the Office of Elections website or picking up a paper application at any Fairfax County governmental center or library branch.
Applications to request a mail-in ballot are due by Oct. 28. Completed ballots must be returned to the Office of Elections by 7 p.m. on Nov. 8 or postmarked by Nov. 8 and received by noon on Nov. 14.
Ballots can be returned by mail or ballot drop boxes. A ballot drop box is available until 7 p.m. Nov. 8 front of the Fairfax County Government Center 24/7 under video surveillance. Ballot drop boxes will also be provided during voting hours at early voting sites and at all polling places from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Nov. 8.
Voting on Election Day
If you’re voting on Election Day, polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Nov. 8. An acceptable form of identification is required to vote in person at your polling place.
