The Democratic National Convention’s first night was anything but peaceful for Ben Bergquam, a conservative activist and journalist known for his outspoken criticism of left-wing politics. Accompanied by Terry Newsome, Bergquam took to the streets of Chicago to observe the activities of DNC protestors. What began as an exploration quickly turned chaotic when Bergquam found himself at the center of a bizarre and aggressive incident that he captured on film.
As Bergquam and Newsome navigated the park, tensions escalated. In a shocking turn of events, a woman dressed as a man assaulted Bergquam with a gallon of milk. The encounter Bergquam shared in a short film clip on social media shows the woman first splashing the milk at him and then hurling the empty container at his head, covering his face, eyes, and camera with the liquid.
Bergquam didn’t hesitate to express his disdain for the incident, tying it to what he sees as a broader cultural issue. “Breaking: I got assaulted with milk at the DNC!” he wrote alongside the clip. “This is what happens when you raise children without spankings. Please share and parents, raise your kids to be better. Don’t let them grow up to be Commies!” Bergquam’s post was laced with hashtags that left no doubt about his views: #ANTIFASUCKS, #CommunismSucks, #DemocratsSuck.
In the video, Bergquam’s frustration is palpable as he sarcastically comments on the state of the DNC protestors and the chaotic environment around him. “Surprise surprise, the tents come out. Not surprise surprise. Oh amazing. There you go. Well done, Democrats,” he remarks, as graffiti and vandalism begin to unfold in the background. The tension is clear as Bergquam tries to engage with individuals wearing masks, only to be met with mumbled responses and what he interpreted as threats. “Is that a threat? Your park. Why are you doing that?” he challenges.
The confrontation with the milk-throwing assailant only intensified Bergquam’s rhetoric. “This is the tolerant left, guys, this is the tolerant left right there,” he says, dripping with irony. He quickly connects the incident to his broader criticisms of left-wing extremism, stating, “From the river to the sea. They’re gonna murder the Jews. That’s what they’re really saying, guys. Right there, They’re with Hamas. They want to murder the Jews.”
Bergquam’s closing comments are as biting as they are humorous. “I love milk. By the way, I love milk. Don’t be a vegan,” he quips, before taking one last jab at his attacker. “Yeah, nice shot. Obviously, he didn’t play baseball though.” His final remarks, directed at Newsome, reflect his disdain for the encounter and what it represents: “We got attacked by milk. You might want to put that in your little booklet. They’re fascist out down there. Antifa, fascist and we got attacked.”
In an evening intended to witness political discourse, Bergquam found himself instead documenting what he views as the intolerance and aggression of the far left. The incident, while absurd, serves as a microcosm of the broader tensions and ideological clashes that continue to define America’s political landscape.
