A recent report in The Washington Times reveals serious allegations against top FBI leadership, claiming they orchestrated the cleansing of anti-Trump social media posts by an agent before promoting him to head the bureau’s Miami field office, which oversees former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate. According to a whistleblower’s disclosure to the House Judiciary Committee, FBI Special Agent Jeffrey Veltri was “adamantly and vocally anti-Trump” on platforms like Facebook, leading FBI Director Christopher A. Wray, Deputy Director Paul Abbate, and Executive Assistant Director Jennifer Moore to direct Veltri to scrub his social media to appear politically neutral.
The whistleblower further alleged that the FBI was concerned not about Veltri’s bias against Trump but how such information might be publicly perceived. The move to sanitize Veltri’s online presence raises questions about the bureau’s impartiality, particularly given its central role in investigating Trump-related matters. Veltri’s new position as head of the Miami field office puts him in charge of the area that includes Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, a detail that has deepened public concerns.
In an interview with The Washington Times, former FBI Assistant Director Chris Swecker expressed alarm over the allegations, stating, “If they wiped his social media clean, that’s something that needs to be looked at by the DOJ and the [Office of] Inspectors General.” Swecker added that such actions could have delayed Veltri’s promotion had they been fully investigated beforehand. Despite these accusations, the FBI maintained that Veltri was promoted through a competitive and impartial process.
Kyle Becker and Erik Prince added fuel to the fire with public commentary highlighting the potential dangers of political bias in the FBI’s handling of sensitive investigations. Becker pointed to Veltri’s history of Trump-related vitriol as evidence that the public cannot trust him to conduct impartial investigations into the recent assassination attempt on Trump. Erik Prince, the former CEO of Blackwater, even called for state and local authorities to take over the investigation, warning that the FBI might conceal crucial information.
